Writing & Editing

When I read Gone with the Wind in the eighth grade, I remember thinking that I would write a novel someday. It was my mother’s death that eventually prompted me to sit down and write; a cathartic experience after her untimely demise that sent me on an unexpected journey and hasn’t ended.

I have published two novels – Falling Through Trees and its sequel This Side of Perfect – in the genre of Women’s Fiction; I served on the Women’s Fiction Writers Board and the South Carolina Writer’s Association for two years. Only after this time, did I realize that I appreciate stories with a little more grit and mystery in them, which introduced the idea for my current novel in progress.

I also wrote The Days of Not So Long Ago, a compilation of quick life stories from 15 pre-centennials at a nursing home on Daniel Island, South Carolina, where I volunteered. This endeavor brought on ghostwriting opportunities for a few local families, women who wanted to tell their life stores when they still could. I have also edited multiple manuscripts for writers, helping more than a dozen writers get their stories out and get published.

Currently, I am finishing a book that has been in the making for (too) many years – The Messy Mind of Magnolia Clementine. It’s the story of a confused Southern woman who can’t remember parts of her past, then realizes the present isn’t good with a meddling mother, an annoying ‘babysitter, and an angry husband. She questions who is out to get her and what is even real. Maggie’s life then flips upside-down from a missing planner and a sudden discovery. A discovery that becomes the first of many as she learns truths about friends, neighbors, and family, and even more truths about herself as secrets unfold.
